Saudi Crown Prince: The new project will have zero streets, zero cars, 170 km long, and 100% renewable energy

 

 Prince Muhammad bin Salman, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia and Chairman of the Board of Directors of NEOM, launched the giant "The Line" project in the NEOM area, which he described as "an urban revolution for the human being, which puts people first, and its details will be many, and more will be presented later."

Prince Mohammed bin Salman asked why we sacrifice nature for the sake of development, speaking of the concept of sustainable cities, preserving the environment, and promoting artificial intelligence, within an environment without noise and pollution.

 

The Crown Prince said, "Why do 7 million people die annually due to pollution, why do we lose a million people annually due to accidents, and why do we accept that years of human life are wasted in transportation," stressing the need to "renew the concepts of cities."

Interconnected societies

 The Crown Prince presented the city of "The Line", which he described as "a million-strong city with a length of 170 km that preserves 95% of the nature in Neom."

 He explained that "The Line" has "zero streets, zero cars, and zero carbon emissions."

 He said, "You can spend your needs with a 5-minute walk on The Line, and the cost of the infrastructure there is 30% less, while the quality of services is 30% higher, and 100% renewable energy."

 In the new "The Line" project, communities will be virtually interconnected with each other. About 90% of the data will be used to enhance the capabilities of the infrastructure, while 1% of the data will be used in the current smart cities.

 The project is related to clean energy or close to NEOM's environmental and developmental goals.  The company placed a watch on its website, showing a countdown timer for the project launch date.

 The City of "The Line" will include cognitive, interconnected communities enhanced with artificial intelligence within an environment without noise or pollution, free of vehicles and congestion, and a direct response to the challenges of urbanization that hinder the progress of humanity, such as dilapidated infrastructure, environmental pollution, and urban and population sprawl.

 

The Line will work to achieve the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 in terms of economic diversification by providing 380,000 job opportunities, and contributing to adding 180 billion riyals ($ 48 billion) to the GDP by 2030.

Years for mobility

 The Crown Prince said, "Throughout the ages, cities were built in order to protect people in narrow spaces, and after the Industrial Revolution, cities were built to place the machine, the car, and the factory before man. The cities that claim to be the best in the world, in which people spend years of their life in order to travel, and will  This period will double in 2050, and one billion people will be displaced due to high carbon emissions and rising sea levels. "

 For the first time in more than 150 years, "The Line" city will redefine the concept of urban development through the development of societies in which the human being is its main focus. This enhances the quality of life and ensures access to all basic service facilities including medical centers, schools, and facilities.  Entertainment, plus green spaces within a 5-minute walk, and high-speed transportation solutions will make commuting easier;  The most distant journey on "The Line" is expected to last only 20 minutes, which will provide a living balance between a business environment that fosters innovation and an exceptional quality of life for residents.

 "The Line" communities will be managed entirely by relying on artificial intelligence techniques to facilitate communication with humans in a way that enables them to anticipate and interact with unprecedented capabilities, thus saving residents and companies' time.

It is worth noting that the start of development of "The Line" will take place during the first quarter of 2021, as it forms an important part of the intensive development work underway in NEOM.

 The NEOM project is one of the mega projects within the diversified investment portfolio of the Public Investment Fund, which is the kingdom's sovereign wealth fund.

 Saudi Crown Prince launches the city of the Line

 Last October, NEOM officially started its work from its new headquarters at the project site in northwestern Saudi Arabia, after the company obtained the approval of its board of directors to move the headquarters from Riyadh to the NEOM region, in a step that will enhance the workflow while the pace of development  The project and the start of construction work in many different areas within it.

 More than 450 employees are working from the new headquarters of the company, which is located 35 kilometers from Neom Bay Airport, and the number of employees will increase by the end of this year to reach 700 employees, with the readiness of the specially constructed residential area for them.

 Moving is one of the most important steps in the company's journey since its inception in January 2019, and since then, NEOM has made other important steps, such as the opening of the Neom Bay airport and the signing of the first contracts with national investors to build a residential area for construction workers that will accommodate about 30,000 workers.

 "NEOM" is described as the most ambitious project in the world, as it is being developed on an area of ​​more than 26 thousand square kilometers in northwestern Saudi Arabia, and its investments are estimated at $ 500 billion.
