White and brown sugar and their harms,

Sugar :

 * Sugar is an essential part of the diet, it has been used for thousands of years, and many types are available, the most popular of which are white sugar and brown sugar, and these types are known as added sugars, which are types of sugar or syrup that are added to  Food or drinks when prepared. Added sugars have many names, and they differ from natural sugars, such as those found in fruit or milk.

 White sugar:

 * White sugar is sucrose, cane sugar, table sugar, or white sugar, which is a double sugar (in English: Disaccharide), consisting mainly of a unit of glucose and a unit of fructose, and both cane sugar (in English: Sugarcane) and sugar beet (in English:  Sugar beet) is one of the most important sources of sugar, and the crops of these two plants are specially grown to prepare it, and one teaspoon of white sugar provides 16 calories.  It comes from 4 grams of simple carbohydrates, and white sugar lacks dietary fiber or starches, and the glycemic index is equivalent to 65;  This means that it has a high glycemic index.  Any intake causes blood sugar levels to rise.

 Brown sugar:

 * Brown sugar is made from sugar cane or sugar beet as well, and it is similar to white sugar, except that it contains molasses, and brown sugar can be refined or not refined, but most of the available types are refined, and provide one teaspoon.  Of 17.5 calories, it contains no fiber or starch.

The difference between brown sugar and white sugar:

 * It can be said that the main difference between brown and white sugar is that consuming large quantities of brown sugar may provide small additional amounts of some minerals, as one cup of it provides the equivalent of 183 milligrams of calcium, and a small amount of iron, magnesium, selenium, and manganese.  And potassium, but these quantities are still few, and you should not eat too much sugar, because that is harmful to health.

Is brown sugar better than white sugar?

 * Adding molasses to brown sugar increases its ability to retain moisture, and this helps make baked goods to which brown sugar is added softer and denser, but from a nutritional point of view, brown sugar cannot be considered a good option for health, but the amount of sugar consumed in general should be reduced.  Regardless of its type, and whether it is brown or white, we mention in the following points the reasons for this:

Brown and white sugar contain some similar nutrients.  As they are mainly made from sugar cane or sugar beet, but as mentioned earlier;  Brown sugar may contain additional vitamins and minerals due to the addition of molasses, however these slight differences in the nutritional value are unlikely to affect health.  Sucrose is made of both brown and white sugar, which rapidly increases blood sugar levels.  Brown and white sugar are added sugars.

 General damage to sugars:

 * Foods that contain added sugars are distinguished by being high in calories with a low nutritional value, and are often high in fat, such as butter, margarine or obesity, and excessive consumption of foods rich in added sugars is associated with the possibility of many health problems.  Including: Failure to obtain the necessary nutrients for the body: The consumption of foods rich in added sugars instead of other foods that are beneficial for health may lead to the body not obtaining its need of nutrients, vitamins and minerals necessary for the body,

An example is consuming soft drinks, as they contain a large amount of added sugar and calories without any other nutritional value.  Weight gain: Eating foods high with added sugars may lead to weight gain, as adding them increases the amount of calories in foods and drinks.  Increase triglyceride levels: Eating a large amount of added sugars increases the risk of heart disease, due to its role in increasing triglyceride levels (in English: Triglycerides).

It is a type of fat found in the bloodstream and fatty tissue.  Tooth decay: The problem of tooth decay appears as a result of the growth and multiplication of bacteria inside the mouth, whose growth is stimulated by the presence of sugars, whether natural or additive, and tooth decay can be caused by increased consumption of foods and drinks that contain natural or added sugar, especially in the absence of interest in oral and dental health.  And cleanliness.  To read more about the harms of sugars, you can refer to the article on the harms of sugars.  a
