The first Egyptian woman to donate her liver to her husband in the Middle East

The Egyptian woman has always been a symbol and model in sacrifice and loyalty for the sake of her family and the building of her home.

Coinciding with International Women's Day.  We tell you the story of the loyal and caring lady "Lamia Shaheen", 57 years old, who donated the lobe of her liver to her husband, Ahmed Abdel-Nabi, more than 21 years ago.

.  The operation took place in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and was considered at the time the first donor in the Middle East.

 * To set Lamia as an example for the Egyptian woman who sacrifices her life for her family by removing part of her body to give it to her husband.  This work is considered one of the highest meanings of love and loyalty.  She did not hesitate to save her husband.

Lamia said: My life was like any family.  I go with my husband to work every morning.  I deposit my two children when they go to school.  Their life was a quiet, ordinary life.  before turning 360 degrees.

The story of her husband's illness:

The husband began to enter into a fit of illness, showing symptoms of illness and fatigue, and his stomach seemed to swell terribly.  We went to the hospital to find out the cause of these symptoms.  And the doctors discovered, after examination, analyzes, and x-rays, that the husband was suffering from hepatitis C.  Unfortunately, in the late stages of the disease, he could lose his life at any time.

The husband's condition began to deteriorate and became difficult, and he was losing consciousness from fatigue.  The doctors assured her that the stage of loss will be followed by death at any moment.  The only solution is the presence of a liver donor for her husband in order to save his life.

Lamia said that she and her husband were working in Saudi Arabia at the time of the onset of the disease.  It was common practice there, organ transplantation, which is the transfer of an organ from a dead person to a living one.  But we told the doctors that my husband can transfer an organ to my husband from a living person.  But provided that there are first-degree relatives.

 * The two of us spent a period in the hospital between analyzes and x-rays.  I also underwent psychological treatment in order for the doctors to make sure that what I am doing is entirely my desire and not because of my husband’s influence on me.

"I never told my family in Egypt about this. I trusted in God and surrendered myself to my Lord. I donated a part of my body to my husband with love. I do not want anything from this life except for him to regain his health and well-being and remove his fatigue. Praise be to God, the transplant was completed and it was the second day of the holy month of Ramadan.

The end of the story of Wafaa and Lamia's love for her husband:

I went through a painful period of health and fell into a coma for a month and my condition was serious.  But by God's grace I regained my health and consciousness again.  She underwent several other operations.  But, thank God, my husband and I came back and recovered, and we returned to our children again, thanks to God.
